Essential medicines are those that satisfy the priority health care needs of the population, available round the year, in sufficient dosage forms and a price lowest to the community.
Criteria for Selection of Essential Medicines:
Selection of medicines or drugs is based upon;
Disease prevalence
Evidence on efficacy and safety
Comparative cost-effectiveness
